A Guyanese Film Festival!

Timehri Film Festival

SEPTEMBER 23-26, 2021 • Georgetown, Guyana

WELCOME TO THE 6th EDITION OF THE TIMEHRI FILM FESTIVAL!

This year’s edition is once again a completely virtual and free festival, bringing films from Guyana and the Caribbean to (mostly) Guyanese audiences around the world.

DAY 1 – Sep 23: We begin with Opening Night: Guyanese Film Night, an eclectic mix of films by local and diaspora Guyanese filmmakers. It’s followed by The Darwin Initiative: Indigenous Guyanese Videos, a block of videos made by Indigenous filmmakers, presented in collaboration with the Darwin Initiative.

Day 2 – Sep 24: Our programming continues with our Queer Film Program, a collection of queer Caribbean cinema. Later, we’re excited to host the Guyana premiere of Party Done, a film profiling the controversial life and work of Trinidadian TV personality, Ian Alleyne.

Day 3 – Sep 25: We explore the life experiences of queer Indo-Caribbeans living in the diaspora in Queer Coolie-tudes, followed by a look at the current day lives of Hmong who migrated to French Guiana in 1979: Hmong de Javouhey. We close the day with a look at the lives of the market “middle” women in the Haitian market system in Madan Sara, followed by Films from the French Caribbean, a mix of short films by young French Caribbean filmmakers.

Day 4 – Sep 26: We end the festival with hard-hitting looks at some of the climate change and extractive industry challenges facing Caribbean countries in our Environmental Film Program, as well as the varying migration experiences of Haitians—who have recently begun migrating to Guyana—in our Haitian Film Program.

Most films and film programs will be followed by in-depth, post-screening conversations and Q+As with the filmmakers.

You can watch any film or film program by navigating to that film / film program’s page and clicking the RSVP button. This will take you to Eventbrite, where you can register for the screening. You will receive a registration email from Eventbrite with the Zoom link to watch the film. You will later receive a reminder email from Eventbrite with the link and screening details. Each film is available for up to 24 hours after its listed screening time, and can be accessed via the steps above. You can also easily find these instructions on our HOW TO WATCH page.

Our Festival Artist this year is Guyanese photographer KEN BACCHUS. His images of the Promenade Gardens in Guyana serve as the backdrop for the pages on our website.

The Timehri Film Festival is produced by Third Horizon. The team includes Alysia Christiani, Yaphet Jackman, and Melissa Roberts.

Please visit the FILM GUIDE and SCHEDULE pages on this website to see the full lineup of films we’ve curated for you, along with all of their screening details.

We hope you will join us for what promises to be an intense and joyful weekend of film. We are looking forward to vibing with you!
